Effective trailer securement requires a tow vehicle, hitch and trailer rated for the loaded setup. Position cargo as its manufacturer directs, add blocking where needed and connect trailer tie down straps to rated anchors. Choose straps by working load limit (WLL) - not maximum breaking strength - and route them against relevant movement. Test the load before departure and reinspect after the trip begins.
Trailer cargo needs more than strong straps because braking, turns, vibration, bumps and settling can make a load slide, roll, tip, bounce or lift. Straps, connectors, anchors, cargo contact points, blocking and routing must work together. A high-capacity strap cannot compensate for a damaged anchor; the weakest applicable component can limit the system.

Determine whether the cargo can slide, roll, tip, bounce, compress or lift.
Check the tow vehicle, hitch, trailer and loaded weight.

Brace, chock or contain rolling and unstable cargo where appropriate.

Chocks, walls and blocking may supplement straps but do not automatically replace rated restraints. Route each strap to oppose expected movement. Direct restraints connect approved cargo points to anchors; indirect restraints pass over, through or around stable cargo areas. Opposing or crossed restraints may improve fore-and-aft or lateral control when the setup supports them.
